We have begun a new series that will bring us to the Easter season entitled: “Jesus- the Passover Lamb.” What is the “Passover” anyway? The Passover is a Jewish feast that God told the people to celebrate every year to commemorate “the exodus.” That was the event where God brought them out of slavery and captivity with a strong arm - He delivered them.
God raised up Moses who performs nine great miracles, but they're still not released from captivity. So, the Lord says to Moses: “I’m going to inflict judgment on this land of Egypt. But if you follow my instructions Moses, you and the people won't be harmed. And the instructions were to kill a lamb and smear its blood on the doorposts and lintel of their homes.
The lamb was selected, it would be held for a time and then sacrificed, eaten and the blood applied to the doorpost. The lamb because of its docile nature doesn’t budge, it's completely cooperative, it hardly even lets out a bleat. And it's a type or foreshadow of the complete compliance of our Lord as He went to the cross willingly; 100% cooperation and submission to the plan and purposes of God.
Isaiah 53:7 He (Messiah) was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth…
Matthew 26:62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.
Normally an innocent person will defend themselves when faced with an accusation that is unfounded. But when you read the Easter account, you’re aware that Jesus stood silently before His accusers. There was no complaint, no murmur of any kind - there was nothing except submission and compliance to the will of God.
When God the Father looked on the sacrifice of His Son… He was looking at you and me. We are the Seed that God was looking to when He offered His Son on the cross. Because Jesus poured out his soul unto death and was numbered with the sinners and took upon Him the sins of the world - the Father prolonged His days - He raised Him from the dead. And through knowing Christ; coming to know Him in a personal way, Jesus justifies us by carrying our sin.
