This Sunday -Resurrection Sunday, you are most welcome to join us for a very special Easter Sunday service. We will be singing some of the glorious resurrection hymns that speak of our Savior rising to new life! There will be a number of special music numbers that will feature our own talent including our kids and youth. And I will weave into the morning, a few thoughts on “The Risen Lamb.”
We sometimes sing the song at Easter:” He Lives” – which says in the lyrics: “You asked me how I know He lives; He lives within my heart.” We also know that He lives by the word of God, the Bible speaks of Jesus appearing to many before His ascension. But there is another witness of the resurrected Lamb, it is John the beloved disciple. He writes in the book of Revelation about the vision that he has received about Jesus - the Risen Lamb.
Revelation 5: 5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.” 6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain.
So, there is a sealed scroll in the hands of the Father and it needs to be opened. John the Apostle is weeping because no one has been found worthy to open it. Well, what is the scroll anyway? it's the end time events that Daniel spoke about in the O.T. - events that are about to unfold in our world today - so the scroll is the redemptive plan of God for the Earth.
And if it's not opened, evil is never conquered, judgment is never carried out, believers don't triumph and we don't have a future inheritance. But there is Someone who is Worthy to unseal the scroll.
He is the resurrected Christ Jesus - He is identified as the Lion of Judah - it is Jesus, who is of the family tree of Jacob- going back to the tribe of Judah. He’s described as a Lion- but when they look upon this person who's described as a lion they don't see a lion - this is not Mufasa or Aslan.
Instead, they see a murdered Lamb with evidence of blood on his feet and hands and His brow and there's a stab wound in His side. But although He's been killed - this Passover Lamb - Jesus, He is now very much alive - He is risen.
How did the Lamb become the Lion? Because the Lamb has prevailed. The Lamb has conquered - you see there was a fierce enemy who was intent on destruction and death but Jesus prevailed over sin and death. He has taken our sin upon Himself as the pure and sinless Lamb, He has conquered sin and shed His blood so that we could receive forgiveness. He has prevailed over death by rising again to new life. He has conquered hell and the grave and given us the hope of resurrection that we too will be with Him someday.
