The Lord Wields a Sword

Good Morning Church,

I trust that you are all doing well:) Church for this coming Sunday (28 March) is via livestream only, but I look forward to worshiping with you in live services on Easter Sunday ( at 15% capacity...I will give details of this in the next week).

This Sunday: “The Lord Wields a Sword”

We are working our way through Matthew 26; the night of the Passover meal and the night that our Saviour was betrayed and arrested. This Sunday I want to look at what Jesus said right after He had instituted the “New Covenant in His Blood” and had broken the bread and drank from the cup with His disciples. He said these words:

Matthew 26: 31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”

Jesus is quoting words from the prophet Zechariah to speak of the imminence of His being struck down at the cross. But who is wielding the sword? Could it be that God the Father bears the sword and is permitting His Son to be struck? God’s Sword results in 4 things: It brings Justice, It strikes the Shepherd, It scatters the sheep, but It brings about a refined flock.

Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. by going to https://www.firstbaptistsudbury.com and clicking on livestream; for “The Lord Wields a Sword”.

Take heart and be blessed!
