We are doing a short series for the Christmas season and talking about the Holy Spirit in relation to the Incarnation. Last week we talked about the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus and how the Holy Spirit, because of her submission and obedience to God the Father, worked a miracle within her.
This week, I want to talk about another important aspect of the Incarnation: The Glory of Jesus. The most powerful verse pertaining to the Incarnation is this one:
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
What is Glory? We often refer to sporting events in terms of “glory": the Stanley Cup Parade, the Super Bowl Parade -the glory years of winning sports teams are the things that we believe are praiseworthy, events to be celebrated. The writer of Hebrews in chapter 2, writes about the humanity of Christ. And he says that Jesus put off the glory of heaven, so that He could be obedient unto death; the death on the cross. And because Jesus put off the glory of heaven, He is now crowned with glory…and not only that, but He desires to bring us into His glory.
Hebrews 2: 10 For it was fitting for Him (Father), for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation (Jesus) perfect through sufferings.
He is the “captain of our salvation” - He is standing on the bridge of the good ship “Salvation” - He's at the helm, the steering wheel, and He's guiding us towards that glorious reward that awaits us as believers. He wants us to experience His glory.
If you seek the glory that the world offers…you will be disappointed …that glory is fading; but if you seek the glory of Christ, you will never be disappointed in this life or in the next.
